Checking if the system is working perfect
Problems
How to check if your Geforce is working perfect, when you have nothing for reference ?
Idiot-test: Did you have picture on your monitor ?
Switch on the computer, if it don't work => Computer defect or Card defect.
If you open your "Screen Configuration" you have "the possibility" to change to more than 800*600 resolution. (you can, do it if you want).
if you cant switch, your driver are not correctly installed, then go to the support-area of www.asuscom.de and look for the actual driver.
Be sure to make a restart "EVERYTIME" windows ask for that (it takes me hours to detect this bullshit with my very good networkcard).
And remove the old driver and switch to VGA and deinstall the old drivers (this could help).
Speed ... one of the difficultiest questions which i have a problem to answer. Benchmarkprogramms and Open-Gl programms like Quake and WinTune doesnt helped me out to find, that my card is uggly slow. Because OpenGL runs over D3D (DirectX) and the Benchmark uses "not all features". If found it out as a played FIFA 2000 (it runs), but the original package included Drakan doesnt run (black screen). If you get this, look down and try to fix it.
ppuuuuhh first of all i stop here .. next parts in a few days...
Problems (known and solved with Asus Geforce V6600/V6800 , Win98/Win95 and DirectX 7 , D3D in conjunction with a Voodoo2 in the system and especially the speed lag)
My first view:
First i got my Geforce i was really happy, the first time i played a MPEG2 Video (no slow animation realtime fullscreen replay because of a mpeg decoder in hardware). But as i tried to start my first game with D3D all crashed.
After searching for the problem in a lot of Web-Sites i cant find the problem. On the other side UnrealTournament runs
BUT so slow as if i play it in Software-Mode on my old Millenium 2, no real speed. But with "experimental" opengl it runs really fast, but no D3D.
Analysies 1:
the system was a Win98se (installed 2 weeks ago with a V3400TNT) and a Voodoo2 (newest beta "official" drivers).
On one page i found a notice: the VOODOO2 driver mess up the DirectX (shit happens).
New drivers from Asus solve the speed problem with UnrealT. but not the crashes with other D3D programs.
Last try:
Nothing helped:
a) deleting all drivers
b) removing registry keys
c) deinstall/reinstall
but something helped:
reinstall of Win98 (without installing the Voodoo at the start of the installation process)
Now the speed is great, no D3D problems.
